MKZ, in case you missed it, now is the time to act. Hurry. Time is of the essence.
Hey guys! So as you may have noticed, I’m doing AAWC challenge three. This is part of my previous story, so you can go check that out here if you haven’t already. I used the prompt given, and the word “swan” in the title of a book for extra points.
One Year Earlier
“Kendall, how many times need we discuss this?” Ms. Charleston asked.
“No more,” Kendall muttered under her breath as she grudgingly walked up the stairs. Kendall was carrying a small bag, containing a few items from her room: a notebook, a change of clothes, and a Trumpet of the Swans book that she had never read and didn’t plan on reading anytime soon. But Kendall didn’t have much time to get anything else.
Ms. Charleston gave a smile to Kendall. It seemed almost fake. “Good. Now, I know this may not be your first choice after the accident, but you’ll be out of here before you know it.”
Yet, Kendall knew that wasn’t true. She’d heard stories of kids like her. They came in, and never came out. Foster homes weren’t too common anymore, and hardly anyone in them- at least, in her area- ever got adopted. Kendall knew foster homes were just places for kids who no one wanted.
Broken, Kendall thought. That’s all I’m to be. Sit here, and wait and hope and dream for something that will never happen.
