beautiful books

What were your writing achievements last year?

As I recall, Crossing Galaxies {17k} and the rewrite {30k}, Royale {30-60k} (it’s complicated), and Mission: Prodigy {91k}. I’m really proud of what I’ve done this year.

What’s on your writerly “to-do list” for 2017?

*Write Halfway to 14

*Do Two Other Novels

*Actually Edit Stuff

*Write 300k in total

*Write for at least 100 days in a row

Tell us about your top-priority writing projects for this year!

Halfway to 14, and editing certain unknown things (others best left alone).

How do you hope to improve as a writer? Where do you see yourself at the end of 2017?

I want to challenge myself, I know my full potential is more than where I am right now. I have no idea where I’ll improve, but I do hope to.

Describe your general editing process.

*Smoothing things over, typos, obvious stuff

*Focus editing the plot

*Focus on editing the words, dialog, and sentences

*Final touches

*Have other people edit, if applicable

On a scale of 1-10, how do you think this draft turned out?

Maybe a six and a half. I got a lot of words, but they weren’t very good quality.

What aspect of your draft needs the most work?

The plot kind of… switched halfway.

What do you like the most about your draft?

My characters, for sure. They were so diverse and unique and real (at least to me).

What are your plans for this novel once you finish editing? More edits? Finding beta readers? Querying? Self-publishing? Hiding it in a dark hole forever?

I’ll take the dark-hole-forever option, though I may let a few people read it.

What’s your top piece of advice for those just finished writing a first draft?

Whether you edit it or you don’t, whether you publish it or you don’t, whether you like it or you don’t, use the draft as a learning experience.

*insert perfect extro here* How was your NaNo novel, if you had one?

  1. Ooh, I love reading these Beautiful Books posts! 😀 Yours are super awesome to read. The plot of my WIP novel kind of switched halfway, too. XD I’m going to participate in NaNo this year, so I’m excited about that. Then I’ll finally have a NaNo novel. XD

  2. Great post! I’ve started reading through my first draft from Nano the other day and I’m so happy with it. It is better and way more interesting then I thought it was 😀
I need to strengthen the plot, write a ton more words, and edit it, but that’s ok.

Hello! Thank you for commenting, it really makes my day! Please be careful with your words and make sure they are appropriate for all ages. Also, please only leave one or two links (it will get caught in the spam folder otherwise).
