Fiction vs. Fantasy Writing Camp, Challenge One

It’s finally here: challenge one of Fiction vs. Fantasy Writing Camp!

As a refresher on the rules for your stories:

  • Don’t write outside your team’s genre
  • Don’t include swearing, gore, violence, and et cetera
  • Try to put effort into your grammar (it’s fine if you make a few mistakes, but if it’s obvious you didn’t care I’ll take off a couple points)
  • I will make the next post on the 9th, so submit your story on or by the 8th
  • Keep your story around 400-3,000 words, just so you aren’t sending me only a paragraph or an entire book

Without further ado, the teams!

Team Fiction

Cute Polar Bear

Team Fantasy

Feel free to use the team images on your website!

If you signed up and didn’t see your name on the list, let me know and I’ll fix it.

Now, for the writing prompts:

The Lost Library:

(Note: you do not have to use her location, just as inspiration for a character)

To submit your story, leave a link below to your post, or use the contact form below to send me your story (or link to website such as pages or Google docs). Please say which prompts you used to help me count the points.

  1. Yay! I can’t wait to get started. When is the deadline for the stories? And how long (or short) should the stories be?

    1. The deadline is the 9th, so you should submit it on or by the 8th. The length of the story doesn’t matter, as long as you keep it around 400-3,000 words (so you’re not sending me just a paragraph or an entire book).

  2. Hey Josie! I just wondered: Did I sign up for team fantasy? Or was there just not enough room on team Fiction? Cause I wanted to be on team Fiction… :/ I mean, if it was a simple mistake, or anything else, that’s FINE, I don’t want to sound bossy…just making sure.. :/

    1. Hi! Unfortunately, to even up the teams I had to move you to Fantasy. If fiction is your better genre, you can still write in that, as an exception since you wanted to be on fiction.

  3. This looks like a ton of fun! I can’t wait to see what stories are thought up! 😀

P.S. I'm doing a writing camp and I'm going to use 1 word prompt, 1 picture, and 1 character prompt too and I was wondering how you pick your character prompts? Thanks so much! 🙂

    1. I picked my character prompts from the character orphanage board. I wanted to pick someone who wasn’t in a location, so it didn’t look like a picture prompt, but who had a story to tell. Like, there must be a reason the girl in this prompt is hiding her face behind a fence post.

  4. I can’t wait to start writing! Can you please post the next one early on the 9th? Because I’m going to be gone from the 10-16, and I want to make sure that I can do one more before I go to camp. Thanks!

    1. It depends on how you write it. If it’s through a time machine, it would count as fiction. If it’s through magic powers or something it would be fantasy.

  5. Is it too late to sign up? I just heard about this and i know the first challenge has already been posted but I could write my story tonight or very early tomorrow. its ok if it’s too late.

Hello! Thank you for commenting, it really makes my day! Please be careful with your words and make sure they are appropriate for all ages. Also, please only leave one or two links (it will get caught in the spam folder otherwise).
