Fiction vs. Fantasy Writing Camp

Yes, it’s here! As some of you have seen on my sidebar, I’m holding a writing camp. You can choose between two teams, Fiction and Fantasy, based on your favorite genre to write in: a good, classic fiction, or a different, fun fantasy.

To sign up, just leave a comment below to let me know what team you would prefer to be on (I might not be able to put you on the team you want, however).

There will be five challenges, and you will have a week to submit your story. Three points will be given for each prompt used, and there will be a picture prompt, word prompt, and a character prompt. You get one point for turning in a story.

That being said, here are some general rules to follow:

  • Please be careful not to write black magic, keep it Narnia style.
  • One point will be deducted if you write outside your team’s genre (like if a Fantasy team member doesn’t use any fantasy, or if a Fiction team member does use fantasy, though hopefully I’ll make it so it’s easy to stay within your genre).
  • Mention at the beginning of your post or email telling me what prompts you used.
  • Points will be taken off for foul language, gore, et cetera.

The first challenge will be posted on July 5, 2016. Please sign up by July 4, though if the teams are uneven I will accept late sign ups.

I’m so excited! Please share this with anyone you think would like it.

      1. Also, since I don’t have a blog, I’d have to send you my story by email. Should I do that by the ‘Contact Me’ page that you have?

          1. Okay, thanks! πŸ™‚ Of course, this begins in July, so I certainly have a lot of time…. XD

  1. Hey Josie! This looks like fun! I think I will be able to do it, but if I feel like things get too hectic I’ll let you know. For now, consider me signed up! πŸ˜‰ I’d love to be on Team Fantasy, as my classic fiction writing always ends up being fantasy no matter how hard I try. πŸ˜› Can’t wait for it to begin!

  2. Ooh this sounds neat, Josie! Unfortunately, we’re going on vacation for a couple of weeks in July, so I don’t think I can sign up. πŸ™ πŸ™ But I’m looking forward to seeing your prompts, and I might write a random story with them if I have time! I hope lots of people sign up!

  3. I wasn’t going to sign up at first, cause I’ll be busy this month, but since it’s in July, I can! πŸ˜€ I’d like to be on Team Fantasy, please. πŸ™‚

  4. Hey Josie! I would love to sign up. I’m busy in June but I will have more time in July. I would like to be on team fiction if that’s possible😊

  5. Hmmm..I really REALLY want to enter!! But…. :/ oooh…well…UGH! XD πŸ˜› xD Well…FINE! I think I can enter…? Yeah, I’m entering! XD πŸ˜› I want to be on team Fiction!! πŸ™‚ But what exactly counts as fantasy? If I use something (this is just an example) with there being a super hero or the world being destroyed by something..>??? Is that fantasy? So would it HAVE to be like…just a COMPLETELY normal story …without someone running through woods being chased by snipers..or SOMETHING! XD πŸ˜› Sorry, I hope those questions made sense…I DO want to enter though!!!!! πŸ˜€ πŸ™‚

    1. Fantasy would be something that wouldn’t happen in this world. So, you can have adventure but not “magic” so to speak.

  6. Hey Josie, I would totally do this, but I’m hosting my own writing challenge. :/ πŸ™‚ I think it might be too much to host and participate in a writing challenge at the same time, but if you think you can take it, I’d love if you signed up for mine. πŸ™‚
I love the idea of fiction vs. fantasy!
